Starting off the 2022 season with a bang, the Adna volleyball team beat 1B power Naselle in four sets (25-20, 25-12, 17-25, 25-12) Thursday at home.

The Pirates (1-0) had an all-around good team game, starting with their serve receive, set, and developing into multiple kills across the board.

Kendall Humphrey led the way with 12 kills and seven aces, Brooklyn Loose had seven kills and six aces, and Gabby Guard had five aces to go along with 16 assists.

“They all played well, they all contributed,” Pirates coach Wendie Dotson said. “It was a good experience for us to see that.”

The Pirates are starting three freshmen this season, and a slew of players that were complements to seniors Maddie Fay and Alyssa Davis last season.

Natalie Humphrey and Parker Feist also earned praise from Dotson for their passes from the back row.

“The confidence that they received from last year, they did an exceptional job, and everyone else around them did well as well,” Dotson said.

The Pirates will turn around to play another power in the 1B ranks, Mossyrock, at home next Monday at 7 p.m. after hosting a tournament on Saturday.
