Pirates Fight Back to Down Bulldogs on the Road

After a slow start, the Adna volleyball team fought back from an early deficit, and some fatigue after a five-set loss to Mossyrock Tuesday, to defeat 1A Montesano on the road Wednesday in five more sets (26-28, 25-11, 21-25, 25-19, 15-10).

After 10 sets over the last two days combined, it's safe to say the Pirates were feeling the effects of fatigue, before digging deep and gutting out a big non-league win on the road.

“We struggled getting a good pass to the setter to kickstart our offense,” Pirates coach Wendie Dotson said. “We were able to get back in the groove in the second set to play a solid set. Made some unforced errors that we usually don’t do on a few occasions tonight. After the slow start the girls settled down and played a better game.”

Gaby Guard went for 29 assists, three aces, two kills, and eight digs in an all-around good performance at setter, and Danika Hallom added a double-double of 15 kills and 12 digs.

Kendall Humphrey went for a team-high 18 kills with 16 digs and an ace, and Brooklyn Loose dished out 11 assists with seven digs and seven kills for the Pirates.

Adna (2-1) will host Toutle Lake Tuesday for its next contest.
