Jumping out to a 27-2 lead after one quarter, the 2B No. 4 Adna girls basketball team rode that wave all the way to a senior night win over Onalaska Wednesday night, 70-28.
The Pirates honored three seniors — Karlee VonMoos, Brooklyn Loose, and Natalie Loose, before the win.
“Those three seniors have been here for five years,” Pirates coach Chris Bannish said. “The time put in, they’ve never missed a practice or a game in their career. I’ve never remembered missing any of them. The shooting of Brooklyn, Karlee’s overall ability, and Natalie’s defense, we’ll miss them. It was a tough night, the work they put in has been pretty special for Adna.”
VonMoos led the way for the Pirates all night from down low, scoring a game-high 23 points, and hauled in her 845th career rebound to close out the regular season of her senior season — almost assuredly a school record per her coach.
Brooklyn Loose added 17 points, and Gaby Guard scored 15 in another well-rounded scoring night.
“We shot the ball well,” Bannish said. “If we can keep Brooklyn and Gaby fed, and Hallom does her thing, we’re going to be in okay shape.”
Adna finishes the regular season as the Central 2B League runner-up, and will take Saturday off to take on the winner of Morton-White Pass and Raymond in the District 4 quarterfinals next Tuesday in Rochester.
The Loggers season comes to close in a tough campaign, playing with just one senior — Brooklyn Sandridge, who also was their lone player returning with varsity experience.
Sandridge led the Loggers with seven points in her final game for Ony, and Cierra Berg added another seven points.
