Pirates Blast Ducks in Four Innings

ADNA — Keeping up its trend of shortened games due to run-rule, the Adna softball team easily dispatched Toutle Lake in four innings Friday afternoon at home in a Central 2B League contest, 15-0.

Due to rainouts and cancellations, it was the Pirates’ seventh game this season, and they haven’t played a full seven innings in over a month.

“We’ve been inside like everyone else,” Pirates coach Bruce Pocklington said. “By now we’re normally scrimmaging against ourselves and we haven’t even been able to do that. We’re still missing a few little things. Our expectations are still high, we just need to tighten a few screws.”

It all started in the circle for Adna, which threw out Ava Simms for all four innings. Simms allowed just one hit and struck out four in the shutout performance, and also went 3 for 3 at the plate with a double and two RBIs.

Karlee VonMoos finished a single shy of the cycle, going 3 for 3 with two runs scored, five RBIs, a home run, triple, and double.

Emerson Nelson went 2 for 3 with a run scored, as well.

“We started out with a couple of fly balls and then settled down,” Pocklington said. “We try to coach line drives and hard ground balls and I thought we hit some groundballs through the holes today, that's a good sign for us.”

The Pirates will look to keep it rolling, and catch up on some lost games due to weather next week, starting with Yelm on the road Tuesday.
