Pe Ell School District Opens Application to Fill Vacant Seat on School Board

The Pe Ell School District is seeking a candidate to serve out the last 15 months of an unexpired term in an at-large position on the Pe Ell School Board, the district announced Monday.

The seat was previously held by Byran King, who lost a bid for the position 2 seat in November 2021 but was later appointed to a vacant at-large seat.

King resigned to allow a family member to take a job with the school district, according to Superintendent Kyle MacDonald.

“A board member cannot have certain family members working in the district earning more than $200 a month if they were not employed with the district prior to the board member being elected or appointed,” said MacDonald in an email to The Chronicle on Monday, “The board member decided that the employment of the family member was an important piece for their family and therefore resigned.”

Interested applicants can submit a letter of interest to the Pe Ell School District Administration Office at 519 N. Second St. or email MacDonald at kmacdonald@peell.k12.wa.us.

Applications will be reviewed on Oct. 7, with an interview to follow at a yet undetermined date.

The position will remain open until it is filled, according to the Pe Ell School District.

Only residents of the Pe Ell School District are eligible to apply.
