Pair of hat tricks ignite Pirates by Cardinals

It took 10 minutes for Bailey Naillon and 13 minutes for Ava Humphrey to each register hat tricks in helping Adna piece together an 11-0 victory over Winlock in a C2BL regular season finale on Wednesday night.

Depending on tiebreakers, it is between Adna and Toledo for the Nos. 3 and 4 seeds for the Class 2B District 4 tournament. Regardless, the Pirates will open the postseason next week at Tenino High School.

Naillon’s three goals came in the second, seventh and 10th minute – all unassisted – to break the match open early. Sophie Hagseth scored twice and Alyson Terry netted a goal in the 30th minute to cap a six-goal opening half.

Humphrey’s three goals were in the 47th, 54th and 60th minute. Lydia Tobin and Kortnie Clark joined the party with tallies in the 53rd and 74th minute, respectively. Adna (10-6-1, 6-2-1 C2BL) erupted for 59 shots on goal.

“We hope to build on this into the postseason to give ourselves a solid shot in every game,” Pirates head coach Patrick Richardson said. “We are trending in the right direction at the right time. It is time to capitalize on it.”

Winlock (5-8, 2-7) will play in an elimination district game at Ocosta next Thursday, with a victory giving them a winner-to-state match to be played next Saturday.
