Overbay’s Big Day Boosts T-Birds Over Tigers

Alex Overbay drove in five runs and scored three times on 3 for 4 hitting to lead Tumwater to a 16-0 win in five innings over visiting Centralia in 2A Evergreen Conference play on Friday. 

The Thunderbirds led from the bottom of the first inning on, plating two runs in the first, a 10-spot in the third inning and four more in the fourth inning to complete the mercy-rule victory.

Brayden Oram also mashed at the plate, going 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a run. Eddie Marson and Landon Roy each drove in two runs and Ryan Orr scored twice to go with an RBI and two walks.

On the mound, Blake Smith allowed just one hit across four innings, striking out eight with three walks. Ayden Ramsey tossed one hitless inning of relief with one K and two walks.

Centralia’s offense fell silent, with leadoff hitter and shortstop Moshie Eport collecting the lone hit on 1 of 2 batting with a walk. Von Wasson, Carlos Vallejo, Gabe Seymour and Brady Sprague all walked once.

Sprague started on the mound, lasting two innings after surrendering nine earned runs on seven hits and three walks with no strikeouts. Landon Kaut threw two innings of relief, allowing six earned runs on six hits and two walks with one K.

The two teams face each other in a rematch at 4:30 p.m. at Ed Wheeler Field on Tuesday.
