The Mossyrock High School boys basketball team played even against P2BL champ Forks in the final three periods, but a 19-8 advantage for the latter was what it needed to upend the former 64-55 on Wednesday night in a Class 2B District 4 elimination game at Castle Rock.
Despite three in double figures and 44 rebounds, the Vikings (6-15) fall two wins shy of the state tournament. Easton Kolb, the lone senior on their roster, ended his basketball prep career with a team-high 20 points on 8-of-21 from the field.
“Started off slow and couldn’t get over the hump,” Mossyrock interim head coach Kelly Ross said. “We had a few momentum changing plays, but couldn’t sustain it. That was a tough matchup for us inside and we couldn’t adjust.”
Ethan Johnson chipped in 16 points and eighth grader Colby Cournyer recorded 14. Mossyrock is expected to return the rest of the junior-laden roster for 2025.
“We will need to have a strong offseason if we want to compete with the top teams next year,” Ross stated. “I think our guys are ready for the challenge.”
