One of four defendants charged for a February 2020 home-invasion robbery in Ethel has been convicted on one count each of first-degree burglary and second-degree theft.

Sambath Loeung, 43, of Kent, entered a guilty plea on April 21 and Judge James W. Lawler delivered his sentence on June 2. Loeung will serve a total of 102 months for both charges, with credit for the roughly 12 months he has been in custody since his arrest in May 2020.

Loeung will serve 12 months in community custody upon his release. Lawler additionally issued a no contact order for the victims.

Two of Loeung’s co-defendants, Angela M. Rothschiller, 34, of Snohomish, and Michelle L. Rothschiller, 39, of Marysville, have also entered guilty pleas and are waiting to be sentenced. Angela Rothschiller has pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree burglary, two counts of first-degree robbery and one count of second-degree theft; and Michelle Rothschiller pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree burglary — however, Michelle Rothschiller is set to testify at co-defendant Charles G. Holmes’ trial and have her charges reduced.

In an April 16 email to Michelle Rothschiller’s attorney, Christopher Baum, deputy prosecutor Will Halstead instructed Michelle to plead guilty to first-degree burglary with the promise that “if she cooperates with the state (and testifies truthfully,)” the state will allow her to withdraw her guilty plea and enter pleas to the lesser charges of first-degree rendering criminal assistance and possession by prisoner.

“She will receive credit for time served and be released once her obligation is satisfied (after the trial is complete and she is sentenced),” Halstead said in the email.

Holmes’ jury trial is scheduled to begin on June 9.

Angela Rothschiller’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for June 10. Michelle Rothschiller’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for June 16.

The four defendants were each initially charged with one count of first-degree burglary, two counts of first-degree robbery and one count of second-degree theft for allegedly attempting to rob an Ethel residence on Feb. 16, 2020. The victims reported that a man in a ski mask, later identified as Holmes, had knocked on their door with an assault rifle and forced his way into their home, accompanied by another man in a mask who was later identified as Loeung.

Lewis County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to an open 911 call from the residence at approximately 1:20 a.m. and reportedly found the Rothschiller sisters listening to a police scanner in a running vehicle outside the house.

They were allegedly relaying information to the men in the house via walkie-talkies, according to court documents.

Holmes and the Rothschillers were arrested at the scene and were booked into the Lewis County Jail. Loeung allegedly stole a purse containing cash, a cellphone and bank cards from the house and fled before police arrival.

He was arrested on May 21, 2020, and booked into the Lewis County Jail.

As of Friday morning, Loeung, Angela Rothschiller and Holmes were in custody at the Lewis County Jail. Michelle Rothschiller was not listed as an inmate on the jail’s roster.
