Oakville Soliciting Community Feedback to Prioritize Small Bond Projects

Here’s a good opportunity for Oakville community members to have a say in school infrastructure funding.

The Oakville School District is currently soliciting feedback from the community on how to spend limited bond money on alternative projects, according to a post on its Facebook page. The district has identified nine projects that could be funded through the bond initiative.

“We are in the process of identifying what projects have to be done and which ones are on the fringe, in case our money doesn’t go as far as (we) want it to go,” the district wrote in its post.

The district has already promised to demolish and build a new elementary school, provide a major facelift to the high school and modernize the elementary school’s playground with bond money.

The alternative projects include high school parking lot paving, paving for the elementary School Street parking lot, installing a replacement track, modernizing the existing baseball and softball fields, building a spectator cover for the football fields, installing a media center in the school’s commons, a makeover for the shop building and 1990 wing, building a storage area for music storage or installing acoustic paneling at the high school and elementary school.

While these are all projects the district would like to bring to fruition, some of them will be prioritized over others.

“The information that we would like to collect through this survey is the priority that you think these alternate projects would need to be completed in terms of importance in your eyes,” the district wrote.
