Oakville’s most mythical roadside attraction now has a name: Siatco.
The 17-foot wooden sasquatch was carved in May by chainsaw sculptor and owner of Native Beach Art in Copalis Crossing, Tony Robinson, from a giant sequoia provided by Oakville wood business Chehalis Valley Slabhaus.
In June, the business announced a naming contest for the statue, with the winner to be declared on July 3. The winning name, submitted by Skye White Eagle, is “Siatco,” the Chehalis word for “bigfoot.” Their prize is a salmon carving made by Robinson, valued at $2,000.
Siatco can be clearly seen from U.S. Highway 12 in Oakville, and makes an excellent photo opportunity. Chehalis Valley Slabhaus can be found on Facebook at @ChehalisValleySlabhaus.
