Makensee Taliaferro notched a hat trick and the Napavine Tigers dropped a seven spot in a 7-0 shutout of Ilwaco on the road Wednesday in a 2B Central League North Division match.

Taliaferro knocked in goals in the 30th minute — assisted by Hayden Kaut — and the 38th minute to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead at the break.

“Ilwaco took a page out of Raymond-South Bend’s playbook and packed the goal,” Napavine assistant coach Chris Tarabochia said. “But we were feeling good and managed to get a lot of pressure on them. Then we found our groove in the second half.”

Senior Natalya Marcial recorded back to back goals to start the second half, the first in the 47th minute off an assist by Clara Fay, and the second in the 49th minute off a Maya Kunkel throw-in inside the 6 that Marcial knocked in with the back of her head.

“We’ve been challenging the girls to score in different ways and it’s starting to pay off,” Tarabochia said.

Taliaferro notched her hat trick in the 53rd minute to put the Tigers up 5-0, Dani Tupuola scored a birthday goal in the 67th minute and Abbigail Marcil scored in the 73rd minute to end the scoring.

Napavine (7-2, 3-1 league) hosted Ilwaco in a rematch make-up game on Thursday.
