For the poster she made on the theme “Sounds of Fire Safety” for this year’s county-wide Fire Safety Week kids poster contest, a Napavine third-grader won a $200 gift certificate and a ride in a firetruck.
Savannah was selected as the champion of a contest that got submissions from students in every school district in the county.
“The grand prize is $200, since it came from our fire station right here in Napavine I wanted to go ahead and give them the kudos,” said Napavine Fire Chief Dan Mahoney.
Mahoney and other Napavine firefighters gave Savanah her prize Monday afternoon.
The Lewis County Fire Chiefs Association, which is made up of Lewis County’s 18 fire chiefs, puts on the county-wide kids poster contest for Fire Safety Week every year.
This year’s Fire Safety Week was in early October, and the theme of this year’s poster contest was “Sounds of Fire Safety.”
“The whole idea was, it’s called the Sounds of Fire Safety, so you can see different people yelling, and different things like that. Each one had their own different way of doing that,” said Mahoney.
