Napavine Funtime Festival plans 46th annual Christmas Parade, with a twist

Posted

As Christmas approaches, Napavine residents will again come together to kick off the holiday season.

The Napavine Funtime Festival will host the town’s 46th annual Christmas parade on Saturday, Dec. 7, though this year has a special twist. The yearly celebration will begin at 6 p.m., and participants are encouraged to decorate their entries with lights.

Jerry Owens, president of the Funtime Festival, said the move was made to account for the Napavine Tigers’ football team, which could play in the 2B state championship at Husky Stadium earlier in the day.

Owens said the later start time would allow the Tigers to return from Seattle and participate in the parade, should the team advance.

Owens said the Tigers’ marching band will also participate in the parade this year. As of Friday, Owens did not have a final count of how many participants will be in this year’s parade, though he said approximately 25 to 30 people have reached out about potentially joining.

“We’re requesting that people put lights on their units that they bring to the parade,” Owens said. “We’re hoping that they’ll light them up nicely.”

Starting at 4 p.m., participants can arrive at the park to begin decorating their floats.

The parade will run from the city park to the “Welcome to Napavine” sign. Following the parade, Lewis County Fire District 5 will host Santa and courtesy cookies and hot chocolate at the fire station.

In addition to the Funtime Festival, the Napavine Newaukum Lions Club has assisted in the planning of the parade.
