The Napavine baseball team made the trip to Spokane for its first-round matchup against Liberty Bell on Saturday, and the Tigers were defeated 14-4 in five innings.
Napavine scored the first two runs of the game in the top of the first on back-to-back singles from Jack Nelson and Layton Griffith, and they retook the lead in the fourth with a two-run single from Cal Bullock.
The game flipped in the bottom half of the inning, though, as the Mountain Lions scored 10 runs to take control.
“We were right in it,” Napavine coach Brian Demarest said. “And things got away from us. The wheels kinda fell off and we couldn’t do anything to stop it.
The Tigers finish their season 17-7 and will say goodbye to Jack Nelson, the team’s lone senior.
“Gonna miss Jack,” Demarest said. “He’s been a staple in our program for a few years.”
