The Morton-White Pass boys basketball team kicked off the final week of its regular season with a grind of a win, keeping Kalama quiet in a 69-28 Central 2B League victory Tuesday.
“Overall, defensively, any time you hold someone to 28 points, you’re doing something right,” MWP coach Chad Cramer said.
The T-Wolves did it by holding Kalama to eight points or fewer in all four quarters. Cramer said his side started out slowly, especially on offense, but with the defense playing the way it was, they still led by 21 points at halftime.
Then, for good measure, MWP went off for 26 points in the third quarter alone to put things quite to bed.
Jake Cournyer led Morton-White Pass with 13 points, with Hunter Hazen right behind at 12, Judah Kelly scoring 10, and Josh Salguero and Tony Belgiorno pitching in nine.
The win seals a top-two finish in league for the T-Wolves, who can still win the C2BL should Napavine slip up against Adna on Thursday. Either way, they’re assured of a first-round bye at the upcoming 2B District 4 tournament.
“That’s obviously one of the preseason goals you have, you want to get that bye going into districts,” Cramer said. “That’s probably the biggest news of the night.”
First, the Timberwolves have one more league matchup, going to Cathlamet on Thursday to take on Wahkiakum.
