Mountaineers Take Slugfest Over Chinooks

There was no lack of offense Thursday in Rainier, as the Rainiers softball team took down Kalama 17-9 in a game that featured 39 combined hits and eight combined crooked numbers on the scoreboard.

Seven Mountaineers logged multi-hit days. Keira Anderson and Alyssa Lofgren both went 4 for 5 in back-to-back spots in the order. Madison Mounts, Brooklynn Swenson, Ryleigh Cruse, and Janess Blackburn all had three-hit games, with Blackburn finishing a home run shy of the cycle.

Rainier scored four runs in the first, fourth, and sixth innings, while adding three runs in the third and two in the fifth. Kalama scored all nine of its runs between the second and fourth frames, briefly taking the lead after a five-spot in the fourth.

Cruse went the distance in the circle for the Mountaineers, needing 145 pitches to get her 21 outs.

Rainier is set to face Winlock in a half-league doubleheader on Monday.
