While all other Lewis County teams were forced to cancel or postpone their contests due to widespread flooding in the area, the Rainier girls basketball team safely made the journey to Randle to play Morton-White Pass Friday night, and came out victorious in a slugfest, 42-30.
The Mountaineers (7-3, 2-1 C2BL) led from start-to-finish, but needed some clutch three-point baskets from Faith Boesch, who finished with a game-high 17 points, to pull out the win.
“There was no real rhythm in the game,” Mountaineers coach Brandon Eygabroad said. “We did a good job of beating the press for fastbreak layups in the first quarter, but after they got out of it, it turned into a halfcourt, grind-it-out game.”
With cancelations galore, whether it be COVID-19 related or weather related, Eygabroad said this season, “you have to go with the flow,” and his Mountaineers weathered a late surge to pull out a win.
Eygabroad commended the play of Boesch and freshman Janess Blackburn, who scored 12 points and hauled in eight rebounds for an “overall great game.”
The Mountaineers will have two home games next week against Stevenson and Adna on Tuesday and Thursday.
