Behind three in double figures and an early 15-point lead, the Rainier High School girls basketball team picked up a signature 51-49 victory over one of the top teams in Class 1B – Neah Bay – on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Devils were one of the last unbeatens in 1B and despite a valiant comeback attempt, the Mountaineers (14-3) recorded a road triumph. Rainier put up 25 points in the opening quarter, 18 of those points from downtown.
They made enough plays down the stretch to hold on and extend their winning streak to three games. Bryn Beckman paced Rainier with 15 points while Angelica Askey added 14 and Janess Blackburn chipped in 12.
The Mountaineers return to C2BL action on Tuesday with a vital league showdown at home against Napavine.
