Mountaineers Blow Out Cardinals in 5

The Rainier baseball team’s offense did a whole lot of damage early, scoring all 15 of its runs in the first three innings in a 15-1 win over Winlock.

The Mountaineers banged out 13 hits, led by Hunter Howell, who finished a home run shy of the cycle with a single, a double, a triple, a walk, three RBIs, and three runs scored. Johnny Boesch went 2 for 2 and scored three runs, and John Kenney was 2 for 3 with three RBIs.

Kenney gave up two hits — both to Winlock’s James Cusson — in three innings, and struck out seven. Sam Watkins and Gavin Owen both added hitless innings, though the Cardinals got to Watkins for a run.

Winlock and Rainier are slated to make the return trip to Egg Town on Thursday.
