The Mossyrock football team could’ve used a few more seconds on the clock on Friday night, as time ran out on the Vikings in a 27-22 loss against Raymond-South Bend.
The Vikings made it down to the two-yard line with one second left in the game, and though the clock stopped momentarily to move the chains, they couldn’t get lined up to snap it before it started again and hit triple zeros.
“We didn’t work on that situational stuff enough, and that’s on me,” Mossyrock coach Eric Ollikainen said. “But I’m super proud of how the kids battled. They competed and didn’t give up … A lot of things to build on.”
Ollikainen was especially pleased that the Vikings even had a chance to win the game late, as the Ravens led 20-0 after one quarter.
Mossyrock (0-1) slowly battled back though, as Wydle Greisen scored a touchdown in the second before Easton Kolb ran in a touchdown in the third and fourth.
“These kids just kept battling,” Ollikainen said. “It was awesome … That first quarter we were just missing on little things … We clean a few things up, we can be pretty good down the stretch hopefully. We obviously gotta get better.”
Kolb finished with 256 total yards, with 145 coming through the air and 111 on the ground on 12 carries. Eathan Johnson hauled in seven of Kolb’s nine completions for 108 yards.
The Vikings will head east next week, as they’ll face Warden on Saturday.
