With the Mossyrock boys team capturing a team championship, and the Rainier girls coming up with the other title, a wet and drizzly day last Friday in Onalaska for the Central 2B Cross Country Championships didn’t slow down the runners for the first bit of postseason distance running action of the fall.
On the boys side, Treyton Marty of Toledo took home the individual league title, running the 5,000-meter course in 16:58.05, but the Mossyrock boys won the team championship, with three top-five finishers.
Jordan Stout of Adna was the runner-up in 17:02.34, and Christian Paz Tapia (17:23.10), Hugo Wedam (17:34.73) and Miguel Gomez (17:37.82) of Mossyrock finished third, fourth, and fifth.
Rounding out the top-10 were Chase Trodahl of Winlock (17:56.28), Ben Russon of Onalaska (18:06.23), James Meldrum of Rainier (18:09.85), Conner Blair of Onalaska (18:09.99), and Eric Brown of Morton-White Pass (18:28.33).
For the girls, Bryn Beckman led the way for the Mountaineers, who earned the team title with a whopping six of the top-10 finishers.
Beckman won the race in 21:48.20. Morton-White Pass’ Ayricka Hughes was the runner-up in 22:04.27, and Joan Wedam of Mossyrock was third in 22:06.16.
After that, it was all Rainier from fourth to eighth. Ella Marvin ran it in 22:12.20, Angelica Askey in 22:19.76, Rayne Tyrrell in 22:36.26, Madison Mounts in 24:33.02, and Emma Mathson in 25:10.32.
