The Vikings had three players with over 25 digs, three others with double digit kills and just 11 service errors, but they were unable to withstand a rally and the Ducks pulled out a 25-21, 22-25, 13-25, 25-16, 15-13 stunner on Wednesday night in the C2BL regular season finale.
Even with the loss, Mossyrock (10-5, 6-2 C2BL) will be the No. 2 seed from the league for the Class 2B District 4 tournament that begins on Saturday. It will travel to Forks to face the third seeded team out of the P2BL, North Beach, at 2 p.m.
“Don’t dwell on something like this. Move forward,” Vikings head coach Alex Nelson said. “That’s what we need to do and that’s what we will do.”
The third set was a cruiser for the Vikings after both sides split the opening two sets. Then Toutle Lake returned the favor by dominating the fourth to make the match go the distance. In a back and forth race to 15, the Ducks prevailed.
Saydi Mendoza paced the front row with 19 kills for Mossyrock while Adyson Barrows and Erin Cournyer added 11 and 10, respectively. Barrows registered 31 digs, three behind team-lead Taylor Schwartz’s 34 and Renzy Marshall chipped in 28 digs.
Cournyer dished out 40 assists and Marshall served three aces.
