Mill Town Smokehouse in Morton will host a meet-and-greet event supporting Washington state Junior Gold Championships national athletes.

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, April 30, at 834 Westlake Avenue, Morton. The fundraiser is for travel expenses for local nationally ranked athletes to attend the 2023 U.S. Bowling National Championships.

Four junior bowlers from Washington state will be competing in the national title tournament: Tamia Yeager (191 average) and Megan Lelli (178 average), of Tacoma; and Danny Chalmers (210 average) and Piper Chalmers (219 average), of Chehalis. The tournament will take place July 10-22 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

All four athletes will be present at Mill Town Smokehouse to showcase their skills.

For a $50 donation, attendees can mix, mingle and roll with the junior bowlers among the lanes from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Additionally, attendees can join a drawing for a $5 pledge where five lucky winners will compete against an athlete in an exhibition game from 1 to 2 pm.

The event is open to the public and all who wish to support the local athletes are welcome.

“We’re so excited to have the chance to participate in this meet-and-greet,” Piper Chalmers said in a news release. “It’s a great way for us to connect with our community and we’re excited to share time on the lanes with them."

Megan Lelli echoed her teammate's sentiment.

“It’s going to be awesome getting together with everyone that supports us,” she said. “We can’t wait to show off our skills and show everyone why we earned our spots on the national stage."

In the release, Mill Town Smokehouse stated it is proud to support the young athletes and to encourage growing interests in bowling as a competitive sport.
