HUBBUB will host a “Meet the Makers” event on Saturday, Dec. 17, at its location at 505 N. Tower Ave. in Centralia.

The event will last from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will feature Sara Smiley, of Design by SML, and Ben King, of Mt. Ellinor Candle Company.

Smiley and King both produce products featuring Pacific Northwest mountain peaks and will be launching a custom product on Saturday featuring a local peak, Seminary Hill.

“It’s been so much fun working with Sara and Ben on these products,” said Rebecca Staebler, the owner of HUBBUB. “We get customers in all the time who want something that represents Centralia and these two products certainly fit the bill.”

Smiley recently moved with her husband Sawyer from Seattle to Morton. They started a studio where they create wooden coasters, ornaments and other home decor. Their creations depict topographical maps of Washington and Oregon volcanic mountain peaks.

On Saturday, Smiley will bring a variety of products new to HUBBUB.

“You don’t want to miss her visit,” Staebler said.

King grew up in Centralia and runs Mt. Ellinor Candle Company out of Olympia. His candle-making started as a pandemic hobby. The scent profile for each of the candles is based on his olfactory experience of the particular peak upon which it is based.

Staebler and King worked together to come up with a candle they felt represented the Seminary Hill Natural Area.

“It’s perfect,” said Staebler, who grew up on Seminary Hill and frequently hikes its trails. “It’s like a walk in the woods after a spring rain.”
