McDougall Comes Out on Top After No Changes Found Following Friday Chehalis Council Recount

A Friday recount of all 142 write-in, undervotes and overvotes found no changes in the race for Chehalis City Council at-large Position No. 1, meaning Kate McDougall has officially won the seat over Councilor Terry Harris.

Per Washington state law, a recount is ordered on a non-statewide election when the difference of votes between the two candidates is fewer than 2,000 votes and also less than 0.5% of the total number of votes cast for both candidates.

Certified results from the Lewis County Canvassing Board showed McDougall won the race with 657 ballots over Harris’s 651. Two write-ins were made in the election, and 140 undervotes — ballots left blank in the race, but returned — were tallied.

The Lewis County Canvassing Board recertified the Nov. 2 election results following the recount on Friday.
