A 25-year-old man accused of raping a woman in Thurston County last year was arrested Monday in Texas on multiple counts of the crime, the sheriff's office announced.
The man was booked into the El Paso County Jail, local jail information shows.
On Sept. 29, 2024, Thurston County deputies were dispatched to the 3100 block of Overhulse Road Northwest after a report of a rape.
The man had reportedly entered the residence and raped the woman, according to the sheriff's office. The victim did not recognize the suspect but provided a description of him. A sketch of the man was shared with the public.
Detectives continued to investigate the case. In December, the Washington State Patrol lab identified the man through DNA evidence and he was traced to El Paso, Texas.
The Texas Department of Public Safety was contacted and they arrested the suspect, according to the sheriff's office.
The man was booked on suspicion of first-degree rape, second-degree rape, second-degree assault, residential burglary and third-degree theft, jail information shows.
