Loggers Fall Behind, Drop Opener to Raymond

Despite two players in double figures and hanging with Raymond on the road in the first quarter, the Onalaska boys basketball team had a tough second frame and dropped its season opener to the Seagulls in Pacific County, 68-50.

Morgan Anderson’s 24 points and Skyler Hutson’s 15 points led the way for the Seagulls, which outscored the Loggers 19-8 in the second quarter after holding on to a two-point lead through one frame.

“Both teams looked like they had a football hangover and it was their first game,” Ony coach Brent Wood said. “After the first quarter, Raymond proved to be the mentally tougher team and blew it open in the second and third quarters.”

Nick Rushton led the Loggers with a team-high 15 points, and Rylan McGraw added 10 points to round out double-digit scorers. Wood also commended Blaze Underhill and Rushton for handling the half court pressure well, with Underhill adding seven points, and racking up seven steals on the defensive end.

The Loggers take on Pe Ell on Friday for their next game and home opener.
