Forced to change course at the last minute and venture far from home, the Onalaska football team was shut out for the second straight week, losing 20-0 at Goldendale.
The Loggers were originally supposed to play North Beach this week following a 1-1 start. But Wednesday, the Hyaks had to call the game off due to COVID-19 cases, and Onalaska found itself in the same situation it faced multiple times last year, looking for a new opponent with just a day or two to prepare.
Onalaska found a willing opponent in Goldendale, but the T-Wolves ruined the four-hour drive east for their guests with 20 points in the first half and a defensive effort that bent but refused to break.
Onalaska rushed for 274 yards and racked up 18 first downs, but couldn’t finish off any of its drives, stalling out every time.
“Our ability to block is what stopped us,” head coach Mazen Saade said. “Every time that we started to put a drive together we’d have costly penalties, we’d miss blocks. We’ve just got to be better at blocking and tackling.”
Case McGraw finished with 175 total yards on 30 carries to lead the Loggers. Kolby Mozingo went 2 for 12 through the air for 31 yards.
Onalaska will finally get a home game next Friday, when it hosts 1A Tenino.
