Loggers Cut Down Cardinals in Final Minute

Winlock led nearly the entire way Thursday, but Onalaska was ahead at the only time that mattered, scoring late on a Rylan McGraw three-point play to come away with a 55-54 win in a C2BL clash.

The Cardinals held a 47-39 lead through three quarters, but picked a bad time to quiet down offensively. Onalaska whittled the gap throughout the fourth, trailing by two going into the final minute. Then, McGraw took matters into his own hand, driving to the basket, making a layup, and drawing a foul, and put the Loggers ahead on the ensuing free-throw.

Sixteen of McGraw’s team-high 18 points came in the second half. Ben Russon scored 13 points, and Cooper Lawrence pitched in eight.

Winlock’s Chase Scofield led all scorers with 24 points and also logged 12 rebounds. Payton Sickles notched 10 points, and Landon Cline dished out eight assists for the Cardinals.

“I was really proud of our kid’s effort. I thought it was the hardest we’ve played all year,” Winlock coach Cole Doughty said. “The last couple minutes we just didn’t execute and Onalaska did. For us it’s about taking that effort and building on it the rest of the season.”

Onalaska will play at Napavine next Tuesday, and Winlock will host Wahkiakum.
