Liddell Leads Ony Past Mossy

The Onalaska softball team dropped two big innings right out of the gate and rode a big afternoon from Lisa Liddell, run-ruling Mossyrock 13-0 in five innings Monday.

The Logger sophomore went the distance in the circle, striking out nine and allowing four hits in the shutout.

“She settled in on the mound really good, her pitches were hitting their marks,” Onalaska coach Rich Teitzel said. “That helps.”

At the plate, she went 3 for 4 and finished a triple shy of the cycle, starting the scoring with an RBI double in the top of the first, adding an RBI single in the second, and smacking a solo home run to lead off the fourth.

Randi Haight followed her in the order with a 2-for-3 outing, complete with two doubles.

After a bit of a rough showing to open the season against Ocosta, Teitzel saw his team look a lot more like themselves Monday.

“The whole team is on the same page, getting that first game out of the way and having a game underneath their belt and coming back to practice and telling them they're better than this and we just need to play our game and get the bugs out,” Teitzel said. “And they did, they settled in really good. We’re still young, I wouldn’t classify us as picked to win, but they’ll be alright.”

The Loggers dropped a three-spot in the top of the first inning, then doubled that in the second with six more runs, leading 9-0 before Mossyrock had gotten to the cleanup hitter in its order.

“We were trying to stop the bleeding, and it just kept bleeding,” Mossyrock coach Keith Coleman said. “One of those games. We’re improving though, and it’s early in the year.”

Erin Cournyer threw all five innings for Mossyrock; she allowed all 13 runs, though only eight were earned.

Mossyrock will get right back to action Tuesday with another game against a C2BL side, going to Randle to face Morton-White Pass. The Loggers will get another crack at Ocosta — this time on the road — on Wednesday.
