The Veterans Memorial Museum Quilts of Valor chapter and Lewis County Veterans Advisory Board honored seven veterans in a ceremony on Thursday at the museum in Chehalis.

Each veteran was given a handmade quilt to help provide emotional healing, according to a Lewis County news release.

“The quilts are gifted to the veterans in gratitude and honor for their service as a way of comfort to them,” said Quilts of Valor chapter leader Lynn Wiltzius in the release.

Veterans honored included William Huttula, Paul Kaman, Dan Jemelka, William Turner, Arnold Lyshall, Susan Braaten and Ed Fund.

Additionally, two centenarians were also gifted quilts, Glenna Ralff and James Van Ackren.

Since 2018, the Veterans Memorial Museum Quilts of Valor chapter has made 286 quilts for Lewis County veterans.

To nominate a local veteran or someone still serving on active duty, visit the Veterans Memorial Museum at 100 SW Veterans Way in Chehalis, or the museum’s booth at the annual Southwest Washington Fair, which is scheduled to start Aug. 15.
