Lewis County simplifies requests for civil protection orders

Posted

Lewis County residents seeking a protective order can now apply online.

In a county news release, Clerk Scott Tinney announced petitioners seeking a protective order in cases of alleged domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, harassment, vulnerable adults, and in incidents of extreme risk can submit the paperwork remotely.

“There are many positive benefits of having options in how an individual can submit documents,” Tinney said in the release. “It eliminates putting someone at potential risk when coming to the Law and Justice Center to file.”

Tinney also plans to install an application kiosk outside of the clerk's office in the Law and Justice Center. Lewis County is also developing an electronic notification system to update residents on the status of their petitions.
