On Wednesday, Lewis County reported a new weekly count of 135 new COVID-19 cases. That marks two weeks in a row in which infections have increased. Currently, the county is seeing a case rate of 260.4 per 100,000. It’s slightly above the state’s average of 248.0.

According to Public Health Deputy Director John Abplanalp, Lewis County is edging closer to two new COVID-19 hospitalizations per day. In the past week, 12 people have been hospitalized, and 325 people have been hospitalized since the beginning of the pandemic. No new deaths have been reported, leaving the county’s death toll at 60.

Public health officials also reported this week that some local schools are seeing positive cases associated with sports teams. While transmission has not been detected within school walls, Abplanalp said officials haven’t ruled out the possibility of the virus spreading during sporting activities.

In terms of vaccination rates, 24.74% of Lewis County residents are fully vaccinated, compared to 34.26% statewide. And 30.81% of Lewis County residents have gotten at least one shot, compared to 45.63% statewide.
