Lewis County PUD commissioners add funding for low-income senior discount

Posted

Lewis County Public Utility District (PUD) commissioners on Tuesday approved the allocation of another $200,000 for its low-income senior pilot program, according to a news release from the PUD.

Through the program, qualified PUD customers can receive a reduced — or potentially eliminated — daily service charge based on total annual household income, family size and the age of the account holder.

The customer must be at least 62 years of age to qualify, according to the PUD.

Total annual household income, from all sources, must be equal to or less than 225% of the federally established poverty guidelines. Those equal to or less than 225% of the federal poverty level have their daily service charge reduced by 50%. Those equal to or less than 150% have their daily service charge reduced by 100%.

Only one discount per customer is allowed. The discounts will be applied to the residence where the senior resides.

To apply, contact the Community Action Council at 360-736-1800 to schedule an appointment. For more information on the program, visit https://www.lcpud.org/ or call 360-748-9261.

Lewis County PUD is a community-owned, locally governed utility providing power services and telecommunications infrastructure to approximately 35,000 customers throughout most of Lewis County and adjacent communities.
