The Lewis County Board of Commissioners has appointed Patti Angeliz Amos as a new member of the Dangerous Animal Designation (DAD) Board.
Angeliz, who works as the executive director of Valhalla Canine Rescue in Winlock, fills a position on the four-person board that has been vacant since Dec. 31, 2022, according to the county.
The Board of County Commissioners voted to appoint Angeliz to the vacant fourth position on the DAD Board during its regular meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 21. The Board of County Commissioners also reappointed the other three members on the board, inlcuding Charles Snipes, Elsista Ridings and April Hoyt, to their respective positions.
Members serve three-year terms, which will expire on Dec. 31, 2027.
Established in 2018, the board was founded to “enhance public participation in the dangerous animal designation process,” according to a county announcement. The board meets on the first Monday of each month, except for when the schedule conflicts with a holiday.
“County residents who receive a dangerous animal notification from Lewis County are required to attend a hearing during which — based on evidence presented — the hearings officer(s) will determine whether an animal is to be declared dangerous,” the county said in a statement.
Per county code, animals deemed dangerous must either be euthanized or required to follow a strict set of rules.
