Letter to the editor: United Learning Center is a commitment to the future of our children, our businesses and our downtown

Posted

On behalf of the Centralia Downtown Association, we are writing to express our unwavering support for the completion of the United Learning Center.

This project is not just about a building — it is about ensuring a strong future for our children, our local economy and the vitality of our downtown. The United Learning Center represents an investment in Centralia’s long-term success, and we must come together as a community to see it through.

The Bezos Foundation’s commitment to providing early childhood education in Centralia is an extraordinary opportunity. Access to high-quality early learning is proven to have lasting impacts on children, setting them up for success in school and in life. Families in our community will directly benefit from this investment, and by ensuring its completion, we are prioritizing education, opportunity and economic stability for generations to come.

Beyond its educational benefits, the United Learning Center plays a crucial role in our downtown’s continued revitalization. As an organization dedicated to strengthening and enhancing Centralia’s downtown core, the Centralia Downtown Association recognizes the significance of this project. A completed and active United Learning Center will bring families, educators and visitors into our downtown, creating more foot traffic for local businesses and contributing to the overall economic health of the area. Alternatively, an unfinished and deteriorating building in the heart of our city would be a missed opportunity and a setback for our shared efforts to create a vibrant, thriving downtown.

Investing in projects like the United Learning Center aligns with our mission to foster a welcoming and prosperous downtown. We have seen firsthand how dedicated partnerships, community-driven initiatives and strategic investments can transform our city’s core into a place where people want to live, work and visit. The completion of this project is a key step in continuing that momentum.

We urge city leaders, community members and local stakeholders to support the completion of the United Learning Center. Delaying or abandoning this project would mean turning our backs on an opportunity that is rare, invaluable and essential to the future of Centralia. With the right support, we can ensure that this facility becomes a cornerstone of both education and economic growth in our downtown.

Now is the time for action. We encourage our community to speak up, rally behind this project and help secure the final funding needed to complete construction.

The benefits of this investment will extend far beyond the walls of the United Learning Center — this is a commitment to the future of our children, our businesses, and our entire downtown district.
