Letter to the Editor: Thank You for Article Focused on Seniors and Pandemic

Posted

Thank you, Chronicle, for running the article on the pandemic’s effect on senior adults and how to help combat those effects.

This message is to senior adults: You are free to mask up every day, or not. You are free to get vaxxed and boosted, or not. You are free to stay isolated, or not. Personally, since the senior centers are now open again, my life is closer to what it was before COVID.

I’m thankful that the centers are open, especially as I read the Feb. 24 article on Page C1 of the Chronicle concerning the side effects of isolation from the pandemic, which is hopefully soon to be endemic. The article mentioned a list (from an online grief support program through the University of Utah) of strategies to cultivate wellbeing. The list includes: walk the mall, eat with friends, check out senior centers, do volunteer work, join a bowling league or go to a movie.  I would add, go to a church of your choice, personally.
