Letter to the Editor: Reconsider Biosolids Stance in Tenino

Posted

I have never met Tenino Mayor Wayne Fournier and mean no disrespect, but I would like to urge more caution and research before he commits the city of Tenino to mixing septage and sewage sludge to create class A biosolids for use in home gardens.

The mayor mentions in a recent article in The Chronicle the class A product produced by the city of Tacoma, which is sold commercially.

That product was tested last spring by a friend of mine who used to work for DuPont testing hazardous waste and, even though it only contains 50% Class A biosolids, it was the second most contaminated of the 17 products tested. Washington D.C’s was the worst.
