Letter to the Editor: Muzzled Voices Are the Loudest

Posted

When you're secretive, only those that know your secret will hear you. When you're deceitful, no one truly hears you. People fear the very presence of you. Secrets and deceit cause the fearful to create conspiracies. We all want to know the truth. We plan our lives according to the truth. Without truth, we fear the future.

These days, fear is created by leaders hungry for control.

When a leader spreads fear by being secretive and even deceitful, we all become fearful of our future. Our voices amplify concurrent to our fears, ever louder, until the truth is discovered. This is an act created by the survival instincts of humanity which can never be adjusted or extinguished. A leader can only try to muzzle the voices of the fearful who seek the truth.

To my point, U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert interrupted the State of the Union address with an outcry for the 13 fallen soldiers of the debacle of an exit in Afghanistan. Yes, under normal circumstances, this would not be a respectful act. Also, yes, this is a voice which represents a certain portion of the people; a voice who struggles to find the truth for everyone, not just those she represents. Have our leaders tried to muzzle her voice? Is her voice louder now? Why is she simply told to shut up?

Our leader talks about his fallen son a lot. I don't hear anyone telling him to shut up. Is his loss more severe than the mothers and fathers of the 13 soldiers fallen in Afghanistan? Of course not. Yet, the lack of acknowledgement or even a compassionate word for these parents, serves as a reason for the loudest voices. “To silence a voice is to cut off an ear.”
