Letter to the Editor: Interlock Devices Can Be Dangerous and Costly

Posted

How safe are our interlock systems that we have installed in our cars when convicted of a DUI? They're much more dangerous than talking on a cellphone, in my opinion.

Suddenly you have to blow in one. You reach for the interlock to blow into it as you look away from the road.

This can cause trouble unless you pull over and stop. Which, in my opinion, is as dangerous as talking on a cellphone more or less.

My car ended up in a ditch, which cost me $365 to get it out of impound as well as needing to have it recalibrated. That cost me another $100. I feel it's more dangerous for others as well as more costly. What do you think?
