Letter to the Editor: Business People, Not Politicians Needed at Port

Posted

I have been reading the Opinion columns in our Chronicle for years and enjoy hearing both sides of the story. I have known Bonnie Canaday for years and have observed her work on the Centralia City Council and have heard of her work on other commissions. She is a good politician.

As a local business owner I have had the pleasure of working with Julie Shaffley and Kyle Heaton on the Lewis County Dike District No. 2 Commission and as a commissioner at the Port of Centralia.

The Port of Centralia, in my opinion, is a business with the task of bringing in new jobs and industry into the area. If you take a drive out through Galvin Road area and out on to the relatively new “Park 2” off of Harrison Avenue on the new Kuper Road you will see the results of the Port of Commissioners hard work. This looks like a successful business to me.

Julie Shaffley has been a successful business owner in Centralia for many years and Kyle Heaton has been a huge success at bringing in new business to the area. I personally think that business people, not politicians, should be running The Port of Centralia.
