Letter to the Editor: Ban Fireworks

Posted

Fireworks need to be banned.

Not only are they dangerous but they also cause great trauma on wildlife, domestic animals, people who have PTSD, old people in rest homes and those on hospice. People end up in trauma units losing hands and fingers. People have to leave their homes and hope they don’t come back to a home that might have caught fire.

There’s not enough enforcement to confront these people who light these off and have no respect for neighbors. It doesn’t matter even if the time is set from noon to midnight. How many were caught and fined? The city can set fines but it’s not going to do much good. Time to ban fireworks altogether. Not that it will stop the people who think the rules are not for them, but it might save a life or a home.

These fireworks are purchased mostly at the reservation. They shake my home and the debris that falls in the yards are toxic to pets (and a small child picked a piece up and ate it) if they eat them.

Only the big shows at the parks should be allowed.
