Knutson Two-Hits Tenino in Road Victory

Rochester senior Sadie Knutson sat down 11 batters and allowed just two hits and one run in a 4-1 road victory over Tenino on Monday.

Knutson was dominant on the mound, walking just one batter and countering Tenino ace Emily Baxter to help the Warriors to victory.

Baxter struck out 10 batters but allowed three earned runs on eight hits and two walks as the Beavers scored their first run on offense since their season opener. But the lone run wasn’t enough to aid Baxter.

“We ran ourselves out of two innings again,” Tenino coach Chris Johnson said. “It was the best defensive game we’ve played.”

Layna Demers led the Warriors’ offensive attack, going 2 for 4 with an RBI, a walk and a run scored. Sara Haury added two RBI on a 1 for 3 performance at the plate, and Lakota Escott was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run.

Baxter was responsible for driving in Tenino’s lone run and collected one of the Beavers’ pair of hits on the day. Sophia Hussey had the other hit, going 1 for 2.

“We needed to be pushed and to be tried,” Johnson said. “I think we’re setting ourselves up well. We’ll get there and be ready for league.”

Tenino (1-6) is now off until April 12, when the Beavers head to Eatonville for a doubleheader.

Rochester (4-1) heads to Tumwater for a 4:30 p.m. game on Wednesday.
