Kephart goes off again in Pirates’ first league win

It was the Kannon Kephart show once again for the Adna High School football team, coming down with 10 catches for 213 yards and a pair of scores to aid a 47-8 blowout C2BL West victory over Raymond/South Bend on Friday night in South Bend.

In both of Adna’s victories, Kephart has eclipsed the century mark and scored multiple touchdowns. The Pirates (2-2, 1-0 C2BL West) went up 20-0 after the first quarter and doubled their cushion entering the locker room.

“That kid has been under the radar for awhile, but he is a competitor,” Adna head coach Aaron Cochran said. “I’m really excited for him.”

Without the services of Beau Miller, it was Nailon Ramirez that took the bulk of the carries. He scored twice and ran for 101 yards. He’s been the tight end just to get him on the field, but was a tailback as a freshman and sophomore.

Cochran felt the front-five is “getting closer.” He added it was a “really good team win.” Trevin Salme was 16-of-20 for 274 yards and found Cash Smith for a TD. Salme, Steven O’Dell and Barron Luond found the end zone on the ground.

Week 5 will mark a new chapter in the rivalry between Adna and Napavine. The last time the two sides met was in the Class 2B state quarterfinals, won by the Tigers in a blowout.

“They have a really good team,” Cochran said. “We need to be ready to rock and roll.”
