The eight-man game has always been one where offenses thrive, and that was on full display in Morton on Friday night.
Morton-White Pass’ Judah Kelly set a new school record with nine total touchdowns in MWP’s 76-42 win over Winlock.
“It was crazy,” Morton-White Pass coach Lee Metcalf said with a laugh. “It’s definitely a different game.”
It was clear early that it would be a high-scoring affair, as the two sides combined for 22 points in the first quarter and 36 more in the second.
Big plays were happening all over the field, including three Kelly rushing TDs, two Kelly passing touchdowns, and three touchdowns from Winlock’s Landon Cline.
The chunk plays continued in the second half, with the biggest touchdowns coming on a 56-yard run from Kelly and a 55-yard reverse pass from Jaxyn Pelagio to Cline. Pelagio also caught a touchdown on a 14-yard pass in the first half.
“It was fun,” Metcalf said. “The kids had a good time, and it’s a league win. We had a good time tonight.”
By the end of the night, Kelly rushed for 313 yards and seven touchdowns on just 14 carries, and he also finished with 66 passing yards and two touchdowns through the air on just two pass attempts. Logan Mays added two total touchdowns and 136 total yards, and Kohen Ingalsbe caught the other touchdown pass.
What made setting the school record even sweeter for Kelly is that he topped Braiden Elledge, his cousin who set the previous record of five in 2015.
James Cusson led the Cardinals with 149 yards on the ground, though Cline added 92 and also threw for 101. Pelagio finished with just over 100 total yards counting his touchdown pass, including 51 receiving yards.
Winlock (0-6, 0-4 C2BL East) has forfeited its scheduled game against Onalaska next week, but the Cardinals will return to the field on Friday, Oct. 25 at Coupeville.
Morton-White Pass (3-3, 1-2 C2BL East) will go to Toledo next Friday, Oct. 18.
