Keetons Lead PWV Past Ocosta in Return to P2BL Play

The Pe Ell-Willapa Valley baseball team returned to league play for the first time in 20 days Wednesday and did so in triumphant fashion, beating out the rain to beat Ocosta 13-5 and 8-5 in a Pacific 2B League doubleheader sweep.

“This stretch of weather has been hard on baseball,” PWV coach Kent Smaciarz said. “The game is hard enough without battling the rain. Fortunately we got a nice day at the beach. It was really encouraging to see our guys compete like they did today. We pitched well and our bats came to life.”

PWV’s Keeton brothers led the way, with Connor and Garrett logging two-hit games in both matchups. The two combined to finish the day 9 for 16 at the plate with five RBIs and 10 runs scored. They also did the job on the mound in Game 1, with Garrett striking out 10 and allowing four runs on four hits in 5 ⅓ innings of work, and Connor getting the final five outs.

In Game 2, Riley Pearson scattered six hits across six innings, and Blake Howard held onto the lead in the seventh.

Brayden Ruddell added a pair of two-hit games, smacking doubles in both and driving in seven runs.

PWV is currently set to host Mossyrock on Saturday in a non-league contest; the Titans lost to the Vikings 4-0 back on April 12.
