Join Cowlitz River float over Labor Day weekend

Posted

A local kayaking group headed by Kelso native Mike Hedges is hosting its annual float along the Cowlitz River on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend.

The event has occurred every Labor Day weekend for about seven or eight years.

This year's float is set for Sept. 1 and starts at the Al Helenberg Memorial Boat Launch at 5040 Westside Hwy., Castle Rock and ends at Gerhart Gardens Park at 200 Freedom Way, Longview.

People typically bring nonmotorized vessels like kayaks, paddle boards or canoes for an easy float down the river.

Boats are set to launch at 11 a.m. and the trip takes an estimated five hours.
