The Johns River Fire, which has burned 76 acres on Grays Harbor County-owned commercial timberland since it was discovered on June 25, was 77% contained as of Tuesday afternoon.
Crews anticipate having full containment of the fire area by end of shift Wednesday, and do not expect the final acreage to change, according to the state Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Fire crews first responded to the fire on June 25 and have battled temperatures in the 90s, with the relative humidity dipping below 30%, heavy fuels on steep slopes and strong afternoon winds, according to DNR.
The fire is burning in slash, timber and brush, according to DNR.
As of Tuesday afternoon, there were six DNR engines, one South Beach Regional Fire Authority tender, contract logging equipment and fallers and 84 fire personnel, including five correctional camp crews, fighting the fire.
While not currently assigned, DNR did fly two Type 2 helicopters on the fire on June 25 and 26.
