Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, announced Wednesday she has “returned” $3,620,681.12 to taxpayers in Southwest Washington from the federal government through her casework services since January of this year.

According to a news release from her office, Herrera Beutler and her staff have worked on behalf of 721 Southwest Washington residents so far this year. The $3.6 million returned to residents consists of money they’ve earned; benefits owed to them by the Internal Revenue Service, Social Security Administration, Department of Veteran Affairs and other federal agencies; or assistance from Small Business Administration loans for which they were approved.

“Resolving problems for folks in Southwest Washington is one of the most important parts of my job. While many of the cases we resolve result in the recoupment of money owed to individuals by the federal government, my team and I also go to bat for those encountering issues or unnecessary red tape with a federal agency,” Herrera Beutler stated in the release. “Whether that’s someone who needs a passport expedited or a veteran who needs assistance scheduling a doctor appointment or receiving an ID card from the VA, my team and I will do whatever we can to get things done for residents.”
